Zoopla Ups The Ante in UK Portal Wars

The so-called ‘Portal Wars’ between UK heavyweights is well known for being intense ever since the entrance of agent lead OnTheMarket.com in 2015. Now Zoopla seems to have taken things to the next level as it is offering UK agencies free use of their portal services in return for promises to leave Rightmove.

There are two deals with different fee structures on offer to agents from the longtime Rightmove challenger:

  1. Nine months of Zoopla’s portal services free of charge if the agent agrees to sign up to an 18 month deal with Zoopla and agree to drop Rightmove

  2. Three (could go up to five) months of the portal services free of charge if the agent agrees to sign up to an 18 month deal with Zoopla.

Zoopla’s provocative move follows hot on the heels of OnTheMarket.com offering agencies a three-month fee discount

With agencies all over the world feeling the effects of the global economic slowdown, it is surely only a matter of time before measures such as these are replicated in other verticals and in other countries.
