Traveloka celebrates the Eid season with home protection insurance

Insurance platforms seem to be the new trend for companies online

Indonesian travel tech unicorn Traveloka has been expanding its services beyond flight and hotel booking with the goal of becoming a more comprehensive lifestyle platform, which is where Indonesia’s other major tech firms including Go-Jek, Bukalapak, and Tokopedia, are also headed. One of the newer features platforms are experimenting with are digital insurances.

After adding several new digital services, like movie tickets, car rentals, and digital bill payments, Traveloka launched a home insurance product ahead of the Muslim festive season Eid, which is Indonesia’s biggest yearly holiday. Most people, especially those who live in big cities, leave their home for a vacation to their hometowns.

Traveloka cites data from Jakarta’s Police Office to conclude that the crime rate in Jakarta increased by 19% around the Eid Holiday last year.

Traveloka’s home protection insurance offers several coverage options. One scheme covers damages of up to IDR 20 million (USD 1,389) with payment amounting to IDR 15,000 (USD 1,04) per person, or coverage of up to IDR 50 million (USD 3,473) with payments  amounting to IDR 35,000 (USD 2,43) per person for 30 days, starting from the user’s departure date.
