Last week PropertyGuru put out a press release including figures which it claims make it the top portal in Malaysia. The claim was swiftly countered by arch-rival iProperty which sent out a similar release with what it in turn claimed were figures showing it was in fact the market-leading Malaysian property portal.
Today it seems that PropertyGuru is doubling down on its claim and putting its money where its mouth is by "commemorating this significant milestone with fellow Malaysians, by giving away a fully-furnished free home worth over RM600,000". The free home to be given away to a lucky PropertyGuru user in commemoration of the company's claimed milestone is located in a 25 storey new development in the suburb of Subang Jaya.
To be in with a chance of winning, contestants must first prove that they do not own a home, be nominated in a Facebook or Instagram post which tags the portal's social media accounts and then hope to be selected by PropertyGuru's social media team to be part of the 'grand final' of the contest to be held in April.
Commenting on his company's giveaway, Sheldon Fernandez, Country Manager of PropertyGuru Malaysia said:
"With the PropertyGuru Home Giveaway initiative, we would like to thank Malaysian property seekers for ranking us the No. 1 Property Website in Malaysia as this would not have been possible without the support and trust of Malaysians...We have always aimed to serve Malaysians with the right properties, insights and solutions in making confident property decisions. This leadership position would not have been made possible without the support and trust of Malaysians and we are extremely grateful.”
The free home competition represents a significant power-play by PropertyGuru which may well have dipped into a marketing war-chest which was bolstered significantly in September with a S$300 million injection from existing investors KKR and TPG Capital.
