Robert Walters: The year 2019 is off to a good start for the executives' job market with a volume of offers in the first quarter up 8% compared to 2018.

Coralie Rachet, Director of Robert Walters France, comments on the trends:

"While a slowdown in job creation has been observed in 2018, executive positions have been breaking records for six years. The digitalization of companies is largely involved in this dynamic, which is leading to an increase in the number of requests for expert profiles, capable of accompanying them in these changes."

The production engineer: driver of the factory of the future

The employment of engineers saw a sharp increase in the volume of job offers in the first quarter of 2019, with 11% more offers than in the first quarter of 2018. This increase can be explained in particular by the dynamism of the industry, which has been able to modernize and differentiate itself through constant innovation. The digital transformation initiated by companies creates a demand for engineers with strong technical skills, able to position themselves in strategic positions. The production engineer, in direct interface with the key structures of the plant (R & D, Maintenance, Industrialization, HR, Finance, etc) and at the heart of the problems of improvement, modernization, and compliance of production equipment companies, is particularly needed to pilot the changes in factories.

In addition, the employment of engineers saw a 16% increase in the volume of offers in the 1st quarter of 2019 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is the establishment of new R & D centers and the increase in production capacities that have led to the recovery of industrial investments in the region, and thus fostered this growth in demand for engineers.

Data trades at the heart of the IT & Digital market

The IT & Digital functions continue to grow in companies with a volume of job offers growing by more than 10% in the 1st quarter of 2019. While the digitization phase of Information Systems is already well underway, leading a profound transformation of organizations, companies now need to strengthen their managerial lines. These new managers are now recruited on their ability to develop project roadmaps, but especially to decline in the field by integrating the constraints specific to the company.

The data remains at the heart of the digital transformation of companies, the functions dedicated to its exploitation are always in high demand, especially the Data Analyst, Data Manager, and Data Architect.

Legal direction on all fronts

The legal sector is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of job offers in the first quarter of 2019, with 10% more offers than in the first quarter of 2018. If it is more a hunting market and not a announcements, this rise is nevertheless significant. The reorganization of the legal departments, as a result of the introduction of the RGPD and the implementation of the Sapin II law, has encouraged increased recruitment in the areas of Legal, Tax and Compliance. While the recurrent needs for tax and legal expertise make it possible for the function to remain continuously attractive, the growing demand from Data Protection Officers or Compliance Officers, due to legislative and regulatory developments, is encouraging increased recruitment.
