iProperty Malaysia has announced that it has appointed former Google employee Shylendra Nathan as its new General Manager. In his new role, Nathan will be responsible for the growth and success for sales, marketing and customer and consumer products and services. Previous incumbent David Mawer will now focus on his role as COO of The REA Group's Asia division. Commenting on his successor’s appointment, Mawer said:

“Shylendra’s years of experience in the tech industry and building internet marketplaces in Southeast Asia and South Asia regions will strengthen iProperty.com.my’s position as Malaysia’s No.1 property site.”

Along with Thai portals thinkofliving and prakard and Greater China portals myfun and squarefoot, iProperty Malaysia is run directly under the control of its Australian owner REA Group, whereas its sister portal iProperty Singapore along with 99.co and rumah123 in Indonesia are run by 99 Group which REA Group is a major stakeholder in.

Shylendra Nathan will certainly have plenty of work to get him started in his new role as iProperty Malaysia is locked in a fierce competition with regional rival PropertyGuru to establish supremacy. Two weeks ago both companies sent out press releases claiming to be the country's number one property portal both citing figures from different sources to back their claims and the PR war is likely to continue.
