In a move to get more traffic on its app, Hotels.com plans to rollout customer charges of £4 when they redeem a reward night, however the customers can avoid this fee by booking through its mobile app.

Customers who book 10 nights' of hotel stays through Hotels.com can redeem a 'free' reward night, where they only pay taxes and fees. The value of the reward night is equal to the average nightly rate of the 10 stays.

But from late November, those redeeming this offer online will be charged a fee of £4 per reward night – so if their booking includes two reward nights, they'll be charged £8, and so on.

The fee will only apply to bookings made from Wednesday 27 November, but it won't be charged on bookings made through the Hotels.com app.

A Hotels.com spokesperson said: "Over the last 10 years, our members have redeemed over 17 million reward nights with Hotels.com and we want that to continue."
