In almost any branch of work, experience is necessary, but the creative and design arts are special in their need for thorough portfolios and networking. This has led to a culture of interning and shadowing for free just to get a foot in the door - but Find Your Intern wants to see that no-wages stance change for the better.
The website was set up by Jasmine McPhee while she was studying Fashion Promotion at Ravensbourne University in London, and pulls together paid-only positions in the fashion industry. In turn, it shuns any brands hoping to hire work experience placements without paying them, and reminds creatives of the worth of their labour.
FYI's brand ethos reads:
Find Your Intern is a platform that advertises PAID-ONLY internships. We have created something unlike the rest: a platform that is current, immersive and one that only advertises PAID INTERNSHIPS. If you think you can come here with your "expenses only" you are so very WRONG!
FYI only accepts positions that are National Minimum Wage and above. This is a platform where our community comes for prime guidance, to feel safe and to feel WORTHY.
