Three European powerhouse classifieds companies have joined forces to create Classifieds Marketplaces Europe (CME), a coalition that is designed to develop awareness of the positive role played by local digital classifieds marketplaces in an agile, innovative and inspiring way.
The three founding companies of CME represent some of the largest online classifieds companies in the world who between them own and operate some of the most important European brands in the space in both horizontal and vertical classifieds.
CME's newly created website states that the coalition's main policies are to contribute to the 'Green Transition' by enabling and encouraging the circular economy and the buying and selling of pre-used goods as well as contributing to digital transformation by empowering small business sellers.
Coming together to form a lobbying group to champion industry interests and promote the industry's green credentials makes perfect sense for three large companies that don't compete too heavily across markets and have strong ties.
Adevinta and Schibsted already have a very strong relationship with the former having started life as an offshoot of Schibsted in 2019 while Adevinta and OLX also have business ties through their joint venture OLX Brazil, a leading player in the online classifieds space in Brazil.
