Our series of infographics ‘Top Property Portals’ brings you the market-leading property portals from around the world. We kicked off the series with the top portals in Western Europe, and last week we looked at the property portal scene in Central and Eastern Europe. This week we take a look at the market-leading property portals in Africa. Once again, all rankings come from the latest monthly data from Similarweb. If you think we might have made a mistake or missed a great property portal in your country, get in touch with us, show us your numbers and we’ll be happy to update the infographic…
Morocco - Mubawab.ma
Owned by property portal giants EMPG based out of the UAE. Mubawab is the biggest property portal in Morocco by a long way.
Algeria - Lkeria.com
The Algerian native portal beats out the local version of Mubawab to the top spot across the border in Algeria.
Tunisia - Mubawab.tn
Mubawab was launched in 2010 and enjoys market dominance in both Tunisia and in Morocco.
Egypt - Propertyfinder.eg
There are a couple of very big marketplace sites here (EMPG owned OLX.com.eg and Aqarmap to name a couple) but in terms of pure property portals, Propertyfinder seems to be the biggest.
Senegal - Mamaison.sn
Part of the Ringier Axel Springer offshoot ROAM (Ringier One Africa Media), the portal was launched in 2015 and beats horizontal marketplace site Jumia’s real estate section into 1st place in Senegal.
Mali - Selogeraumali.com
The race for #1 real estate site in Mali is close between sophisticated portal site Se Loger Au Mali and ex-pat network site bamako-immobilier.com
Ivory Coast - Deals.Jumia.ci
The real estate branch of Jumia beats fellow horizontals marketplace site coinafrique.ci to the #1 spot in The Ivory Coast.
Ghana - Meqasa.com
From the Frontier Digital Ventures stable that includes encuentra24.com in Central America as well as PropertyPro in Nigeria. Meqasa is just about ahead of some of the horizontal sites in terms of property traffic.
Nigeria - NigeriaPropertyCentre.com
Leading the market in Nigeria is Nigeria Property Centre. NPC offers the easiest way for Nigerians to search for homes, houses, lands, shops, office spaces and other commercial property for sale.
Cameroon - Jumia.cm
Cameroon’s biggest real estate site is Jumia’s dedicated section. The Nigeria based company runs horizontal marketplaces sites across Africa and is the biggest player in many.
Djibouti - Dahaboo.com
Another local marketplace site that has a real estate vertical. As far as we can tell, it is the number 1 property site in Djibouti.
Somalia - Myproperty.so
The only property portal in town comes from Australian based African Property Group who seem to be creating property portals in the last few countries in Africa that didn’t have them.
Ethiopia - Qefira.com
Another one from ROAM. Qefira has around twice as much monthly traffic as fellow horizontal generalist platform Ezega in Ethiopia.
Kenya - BuyRentKenya.com
Both BuyRentKenya.com and Naspers-owned Property24.co.ke claim to be #1 in Kenya but the prize goes to BuyRentKenya.com which along with MaMaison.sn in Senegal and Qefira in Ethiopia is backed by ROAM.
Tanzania - ZoomTanzania.com
ROAM wins in Tanzania as well with its horizontal site. Zoom comes out ahead of Frontier Digital Ventures-backed marketplace site Kupatana.com.
Seychelles - Mypropertyseychelles.com
Another one from African Property Group. We enjoyed googling around here and it appears that foreign portals like Rightmove Overseas and Zoopla rank highly as well.
Uganda - Jiji.ug
As for dedicated property portals, we found what appears to be a knock-off version of Lamudi (which doesn’t appear on Lamudi’s portfolio or on that of EMPG). The marketplace site Jiji.ug, which is headquartered in Nigeria, seems to be the market leader here.
Gabon - Jumia.ga
There are a couple of very minor local specialist portal sites in Gabon, but as with many African countries, the generalist classifieds site Jumia seems to be the place people go to find a home.
DR Congo - IMCongo.com
There are a couple of dedicated property portals in The Democratic Republic of The Congo. IMCongo seems to have more traffic than immofamilia.com.
Angola - AngoCasa.com
Formerly part of Frontier Digital Ventures until 2019 when their shares were bought out by Tech Africa Ltd which also owns and runs Angola's top car portal AngoCarro.
Malawi - MyProperty.mw
In a population without much internet usage, most of the traffic for this portal as well as that of rival nyumba24.com seems to be coming from South Africa. We’ve awarded MyProperty the title here based on usability.
Zambia - Property24.co.zm
Naspers-backed Property24 is the market leader in Zambia and indeed appears to be the only portal in town.
Namibia - MyProperty.com.na
MyProperty was launched in 2006 by Entegral and also has a portal site over the border in South Africa.
Mozambique - Realestate.co.mz
The local portal had around 20,000 sessions in May according to Similarweb which puts it well out in front of Property24 in Mozambique.
Zimbabwe - Property.co.zw
The country has a lively property portal market with Property24, PropertyBook and Property.co.zw all competing for market leadership.
Botswana - Property24.co.bw
Beats out African Property Group’s portal tswanahome.com. According to Similarweb Property24’s Botswana portal had around 10,000 sessions in May, down from around 20,000 in March.
Lesotho and Swaziland - MyProperty.co.ls and swazihome.com
The African Property Group’s portals seem to be the only native domain property portals in Lesotho and Swaziland.
South Africa - Property24.com
Naspers flagship property portal in the publishing giant’s home country. According to Similarweb Property24 had over 8 million sessions in June, which is nearly 5 million more than its nearest rival PrivateProperty.
