LinkedIn hashtags carry more weight than you might believe

Grammar Chic has released a statement discussing the real import of LinkedIn's premiere of their hashtag feature, and what it means for the workforce ecosystem.

Professional networking site LinkedIn recently announced their hashtag option, which allows companies to tack on searchable keywords to any content they create or share. It increases visibility, and Grammar Chic says it does more, too:

“As an employer, you can now use hashtags to denote the most important components of your company culture,” comments Amanda Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Grammar Chic, Inc. “And, as a jobseeker, you can optimize your searches to connect with employers who offer the perks or values that matter to you—making it easier than ever to find your dream job on LinkedIn.”

A CNBC article even mentions the usability; any user could seek out maybe a "#dogfriendly" workplace using the hashtag to find employment options that fit their criteria. This can be expanded into other realms, such as workplace wellness, upskilling, benefits, and more.

“As you seek the workplace that perfectly jibes with your values, the LinkedIn Hashtags feature can be handy—but keep a few caveats in mind,” Clark says. “The first is that this is a brand-new feature, and it’s going to take some time for more and more employers to implement it. Also note that searching for too many hashtags at one time may make it close to impossible to find a match; it’s best to limit yourself to two or three.”

Despite these caveats, LinkedIn Hashtags are still positioned for a successful future. Clark thinks talent should keep it in mind: "With that said, LinkedIn Hashtags is something that seems poised to take off—so Clark advises jobseekers to stick with it. “Come up with a handful of hashtag searches that you find to be valuable, and hang on to them—revisiting the results each week or two and seeing which new companies come up,” she says.

And on the other side of the coin, users can also add hashtags to their own profiles for their benefit.

“Even as you use this new feature, take some time to make sure your own professional profile is clean, polished, and up-to-date,” comments Clark. “As ever, the professional resume writing team at Grammar Chic, Inc. can help you.”
