Zoopla has published a new guide to help agents advise homebuyer couples on how to avoid complications if they break up after buying a house together.
The guide includes advice on how buyers can protect their share of a property and what to do if they need to sell a house while going through a separation.
Zoopla launched the guide after a customer poll highlighted several difficult situations that homeowners struggled with post-breakup.
The poll showed 13% of couple found themselves in "standoffs" over who should move out, while 15% said their ex-partners started new relationships while they were still living together in a shared house.
42% of married respondants said it took longer to escape a mortgage obligation than it took to get divorced.
Couples were forced to live together for an average of 1.3 years after they separated.
This guide isn't the first unexpected piece of content to come out of Zoopla in recent months: in September, the UK-based portal faced backlash after it released a user guide that suggested tactics for negotiating lower fees from their estate agent!
