The Spain-based portal operator idealista has today announced that it has acquired three domains that provide insurance services to real estate stakeholders. The amount paid by idealista was not disclosed.
The three domains in question were formerly run by the risk management consultancy and insurance broker, Grupo Iddeas (Instituto de Desarrollo Asegurador). The teams from all three domains along with Grupo Iddeas Director Javier Vázquez will be retained by idealista.
The acquisition may signal a move into offering insurance products in a prominent position on idealista's Spanish portal. The Madrid-based company currently offers a range of services around rentals including automatic contract drafting and access to a delinquent tenant database for landlords. At the time of writing though, idealista did not offer insurance products on Spanish listings pages.
Idealista operates the leading portals in Spain and Portugal and is challenging Immobiliare.it for the top spot in Italy thanks to its 2020 purchase of #3 player Casa.it. The portal company has made ten acquisitions in total over the last two years with the last before today being the purchase of Spanish agency software provider Inmovilla in June.
Many portals, especially in developing markets, have been moving to offer a more complete rental offering to tenants and landlords. Both traditional listing portals such as Zonaprop in Argentina and end-to-end startups like Speedhome in Malaysia have prominent insurance products as part of their offerings.
