Woman only coworking startup to launch with $2.5M backing

Three Sydney-based entrepreneurs were sick of working out of cafes and bars and decided to launch a fundraising quest to create a coworking space for women.

Dee Behan, Oonagh Geoghegan and Emma Startup look to launch a $2.5 million equity crowdfunding campaign via the Birchal platform to get Frankly Co off the ground.

The concept was born out of their frustrations with current coworking options in Sydney, which tend to focus on full and part-time workers rather than those with side hustles and kids.

"On Saturday mornings we work from Emma's bar," Behan says, referencing Erskinville's Hive Bar, which Startup part owns.

The Founders are looking forward to having a more permanent base once they launch the company.

Behan and Startup have young children and say a lack of options for flexible office space has seen them working in cafes or squeezing in a few minutes on a project while at the gym, before the time was up on their creche booking.

"There was definitely this huge gap, and it was a nugget of an idea at the time," Behan says.

In the same vein as Melbourne business One Roof and US chain The Wing, Frankly Co is looking to bring childcare and fitness options on site. It will extend beyond the offers currently on the market by offering a broader range of subscriptions types, starting at $165 for five days a month.

One of the proposed sites for launch would fit 430 people and seven standalone offices.

We're not saying 'no men' —  they can come if they want to.
