Idealista Adds Tenant Referencing Service for Agencies and Private Landlords

Leading Spanish property portal idealista has launched a new tenant referencing service to give both agencies and private landlords peace of mind when screening prospective renters.

Given the acronym BDMI, the new service takes the input of the prospective tenant's name and scans several databases for records of late payments, money laundering or criminal activity. The service costs €4.90 and is already operational for both agencies and private landlords across Spain.

The rental sector and its digitalization for both agencies and private landlords is clearly a priority for idealista who announced a native version of paperless remote rental contracts hosted on its platform back in December and followed up with the acquisition of rental management software company Rentger in January.

Idealista is far from the only property portal company to have dipped a toe into the tenant referencing market. Rightmove announced its 'Rent in 5' strategy last month through which it intends to use Van Mildert - the tenant referencing company it purchased in 2019 - to facilitate the five steps involved in renting an apartment. Rightmove's rival OnTheMarket also announced free tenant referencing for all agent customers via a partnership with specialist firm Canopy earlier this summer.
