Joshin, an app launched in the Twin Cities in March, is expected to expand its offerings to St. Cloud in spring 2020, Joshin Experience Manager Sarah McComb said.
The app is a resource to help families find and arrange care for a person with special needs, no matter their age.
The company is already recruiting caregivers in St. Cloud as well as in Rochester and Duluth. The company also has a list of upcoming cities across the United States where it plans to expand. Joshin is already connecting caregivers to those who need them in Chicago, San Francisco and the Twin Cities.
According to a 2017 report from the Minnesota State Demographic Center, Stearns, Wright, Sherburne and Benton counties all had 3,000 or more residents with disabilities. Stearns County had the seventh highest count in the state. Roughly 10.9% of the Minnesota population had one or more disabilities, according to the same report.
Census data from 2000 shows approximately 10% of Minnesotans of all ages had a sensory, physical, mental or self-care disability. Nationwide, that rate in 2000 was about 12.5%.
