Zillow is tightening its businesses, announcing that it is closing down Naked Apartments, its apartment portal for New York City, and directing apartment hunters to StreetEasy.
Whether as part of a greater plan or not, the move will put StreetEasy at the forefront of the NYC apartment market. Currently, the portal has around 20,800 apartment listings throughout the city proper.
Zillow had acquired Naked Apartments for $13 million four years ago. StreetEasy was also an acquisition that was made to focus on the New York City market.
What Naked Apartments held over StreetEasy, is that it was a hyperlocal rental platform, equipped with subway information, market data, and agent reviews. Whether or not Naked Apartments' tech will also be allocated to StreetEasy or any of the other NYC brands under Zillow's umbrella is yet to be announced.
